Webinar – Quantitative Risk Assessment for High Pressure Gas Pipelines in Europe
Webinar: Quantitative Risk Assessment for High Pressure Gas Pipelines in Europe
Date & Time: Wednesday 18th November 2020, 14:00PM (GMT)
A common way to assess risks is by indexes on risk matrices but this can sometimes be subjective. A more objective and hence rigorous way to assess risks is by means of a numerical analysis, which is commonly referred to as a Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).
In the context of pipelines, the QRA uses verifiable data to estimate chances of failure from a range of threats and size the effects from a failure in terms of fatalities. It then turns the likelihood and consequence data into a risk profile and assigns this profile to a given pipeline design. This will guide a safe pipeline design and aid decision making on spending, for example on risk mitigations.
This webinar will look at high pressure gas pipelines, as these are usually associated with greater levels of risk and cost implications. The webinar will start by introducing a few industry codes and standards for QRA’s in Europe, before discussing the assessment methodologies. There will also be a case study provided at the end to demonstrate an example outcome of a QRA.
